Château La Gaffelière 2022 is a dry red wine from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, offered here in a 37.5 cl half bottle. That smaller format is a practical and appealing way to open a serious Bordeaux without committing to a full bottle. In the selection at Drankenshop Broekmans, this vintage stands out for its ripe 2022 character and the strong aromatic presence of cabernet franc.The blend is 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc. The fruit comes from vineyards around Saint-Émilion, on limestone plateau, clay-limestone slopes and more gravelly lower-slope soils. Harvesting was carried out by hand in small crates, followed by cooling, optical sorting and parcel-by-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats filled by gravity.
The 2022 growing season was warm and dry, yet the clay-influenced slopes helped the vines draw on useful water reserves. The wine matured in French oak barriques, including new barrels and some 500-litre casks. Critical reception has been very strong, with 99-point scores from Vinous/Antonio Galloni and Jeb Dunnuck among the published ratings. With the last bottles now available, this half bottle has an added sense of scarcity for anyone looking for a distinguished Saint-Émilion in a smaller format.
