Le Dragon de Quintus 2022 is the second wine of Château Quintus in Saint-Émilion. It comes from the same mosaic of terroirs as the grand vin, yet it is shaped as a more approachable, fruit-led interpretation of the estate. The name refers to the dragon statue standing on the estate's promontory above Saint-Émilion, a detail that gives this wine its own clear identity.The 2022 vintage was warm, sunny and early. Harvest began on 7 September, the earliest since the estate was founded in 2011. Château Quintus describes the grapes as small, concentrated and aromatic, with careful intra-parcel selection playing an important role. In this dry and warm year, the clay-limestone soils helped retain freshness.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we like the way this wine brings the Quintus signature into a more direct form: Saint-Émilion Grand Cru built mainly on merlot, supported by cabernet franc and a smaller share of malbec. Partial maturation in new barriques gives the young wine structure and a noticeable, spicy wood presence.
The 2022 vintage has been well received by international critics, with scores around the low nineties and drinking windows that point to development from the mid-2020s into the 2030s. With the last bottles now in stock, it is a particularly interesting Saint-Émilion vintage to follow over the coming years.

About CH QUINTUS
Ch Quintus is a winery from France that is part of the renowned Saint-Émilion region in Bordeaux. The winery was added to the portfolio of Domaines Clarence Dillon in 2011, which is also the owner of the prestigious Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion. Ch Quintus was created from the merger of two former estates: Château Tertre Daugay and Château L´Arrosée, after which a third vineyard, Château Grand-Pontet, was later added to the estate. This merger resulted in a vineyard of approximately 45 hectares on a selection of limestone plateaus and slopes, typical of Saint-Émilion. The wine production focuses mainly on blends of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, characteristic for the region, with attention to precision and expression of the terroir. Ch Quintus aims to showcase the unique character of each vintage and the special microclimate of their vineyards in their wines. With limited editions and a modern approach, combined with respect for tradition, Ch Quintus offers a contemporary perspective on what the Saint-Émilion terroirs have to offer.
