Flavour notes
The aroma opens with vanilla, gentle spice and ripe citrus fruit, then moves towards dried fruit and nuts. On the palate, fruit and spice stay closely linked, bringing impressions of apple pastry with cinnamon and raisin cake.A warming sweetness of barley comes through later, joined by a touch of sweet pear. The finish has body and a soft, palate-coating feel, with Arran's sweet malt character gradually emerging through the richer flavours.

Product info about Arran Port Finish
Arran Port Finish is a Scottish single malt from the Isle of Arran built around a carefully judged cask finish. After its initial maturation in traditional oak casks, the whisky was given a second period of ageing in selected port casks. That finishing period was closely watched by Master Distiller James MacTaggart, with the aim of keeping the port influence in balance with the naturally sweet style of Arran malt. It gives the whisky charm and depth, while the malt itself remains clearly present.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Arran customers often return to: bottled at 50%, expressive in its fruit and spice, yet still centred on sweet barley and a gentle wood influence rather than heavy smoke.

About ARRAN
Lochranza Distillery can be found in the village of the same name in the north of the Isle of Arran. That's on the west coast of Scotland, a stone's throw from Glasgow. It's a popular weekend trip from Glasgow, because on Arran you'll find a sort of miniature version of Scotland. A short distance away (the road around the whole island is about 80 km in total) you'll find mountains, valleys, beautiful green meadows, beautiful beaches and everything that makes Scotland so enticing for foodies: fresh produce from the land and sea, and whisky, of course. The distillery's location among the mountains in the north of the island is unquestionably spectacular. So must have thought the eagles who were already living there when the distillery was built. They have since become part of the identity of Arran whisky and you can observe them on site to your heart's content.
The whisky made by Lochranza is much loved. It is characterised by a distinctly fruity character that appeals to novice tasters and experienced whisky lovers alike. The basic range includes whiskies that can now be called modern classics such as the 10yo, the Quarter Cask and the Sherry Cask. All of them are tasty, accessible and affordable whiskies of high quality, carefully blended from the casks aged in their warehouses. The Machrie Moor, the lightly peated version made at Lochranza, is also a favourite of many, but will no longer be produced from 2026, as the group has set up a second distillery in the south of the island making only peated whisky (Lagg Distillery).

Frequently asked questions
What kind of whisky is Arran Port Finish?
Arran Port Finish is a single malt whisky.
The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.
Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.
Is Arran Port Finish a no age statement whisky (NAS)?
No, Arran Port Finish is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).
Is Arran Port Finish a single cask whisky?
No, Arran Port Finish is not a single cask whisky.
Is Arran Port Finish a whisky at cask strength?
No, Arran Port Finish is not whisky at cask strength.
Is Arran Port Finish suitable to give as a gift?
Although this Arran Port Finish is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Arran Port Finish might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.
Is Arran Port Finish a popular whisky?
Absolutely! Arran Port Finish is a whisky that is currently included in our Top 100. This top contains the 100 products that were sold most often in our shops over the past 12 months, which is a good indicator of the product's stable popularity over a longer period of time.
Is Arran Port Finish a tarred whisky?
No, there is no peat in the flavour profile in this Arran Port Finish whisky . The absence of any smokiness therefore makes it suitable for those who do not like a peat flavour.
Is Arran Port Finish a spicy whisky?
On its own, yes, but this Arran Port Finish is one whisky with only a slightly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky is not emphatic in the flavour profile, but it is there.
The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.
- In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
- With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
- Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Arran Port Finish a fruity whisky?
On its own, yes, but Arran Port Finish is a whisky with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.
- Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
- Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Arran Port Finish pure or with ice?
Whether you drink this Arran Port Finish whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.
Does Arran Port Finish have a high alcohol content?
Arran Port Finish is not whisky for sissies. The alcohol content of this bottle is quite a bit above the 40% you usually whisky expect, so it's best to take into account that this one can come in solid.
Is Arran Port Finish an independent bottling?
No, Arran Port Finish is an official bottling of Arran.
Is Arran Port Finish suitable for an Irish Coffee?
To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Arran Port Finish is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.
Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.
Is Arran Port Finish vegan?
According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.
Is Arran Port Finish a biological whisky?
Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Arran Port Finish whisky from Arran is not an organic product.
How do I get started on Scotch whisky?
Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.
To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.
You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
