Prelude Clos Apalta 2022 is a red wine from Chile's Apalta Valley, produced by Clos Apalta as part of Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle. The estate positions it as the third wine of Clos Apalta, alongside Clos Apalta and Le Petit Clos. Carménère leads the blend, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.Its identity is closely tied to Apalta itself. The vineyard lies between 185 and 385 metres above sea level, shaped by the Tinguiririca River and the surrounding hills of the Coastal Cordillera. The valley's north-south orientation is unusual for Chile and helps reduce direct sunlight at certain times of day, encouraging slower ripening. The vineyard is organically managed and Ecocert certified.
The 2022 vintage brought cooler conditions, slightly lower yields and a longer growing season. According to the producer, the moderate ripening temperatures gave expressive fruit, density, texture, balance and ageing potential. The winemaking is equally serious: 5 to 6 weeks of maceration, fermentation in French oak vats, malolactic fermentation in new oak, and 18 months in French barriques, with 17% new oak.
