Echo de Lynch Bages 2021 Magnum is the second wine of Château Lynch-Bages, from Pauillac in Bordeaux. Until the name change in 2008 it was known as Château Haut-Bages Averous, but it remains closely tied to the estate and the Cazes family.The 2021 blend is notable for Pauillac: 56% merlot and 44% cabernet sauvignon. The grapes come from the Lynch-Bages estate around Pauillac, planted on Garonne gravel soils, and were hand-harvested and sorted both in the vineyard and at the sorting table. Maturation took place for 12 months in oak barrels that had previously held one wine.
At Lynch-Bages, 2021 was a cooler, more classical vintage, with moderate alcohol levels and a style built more on freshness than weight. The producer describes the wines as fresh, aromatically complex and marked by vivid red fruit; the tasting notes also bring in the graphite, earth and spice that give the wine its Pauillac identity.
