Château Lynch-Bages 2017 in magnum is a Pauillac with a very clear sense of place. This is the estate's grand vin, from a Grand Cru Classé property of the 1855 classification, presented here in the 1.5-litre format. It is the same wine as the standard bottle, but the magnum gives it a more generous presence at the table and a more measured rhythm for cellaring.
The 2017 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by severe spring frost, yet Lynch-Bages reports that its red grapes were spared, helped by the proximity of the Gironde. A dry, fairly sunny but cool summer, followed by fresh nights in September and early October, shaped a wine where ripe dark fruit is matched by freshness and the firm architecture associated with Pauillac.

Château Lynch-Bages 2020 marks an important chapter for the estate: it was the first vintage vinified in the château's new winery. For a Pauillac grand vin with the 1855 Grand Cru Classé status, that is more than a technical detail. It speaks to the level of precision behind the selection, handling and separate vinification of the different plots and grape varieties.
Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The fruit comes from the Lynch-Bages vineyards south and southwest of Pauillac, planted on deep Garonne gravel soils that drain well and retain warmth. The 2020 vintage is described as ripe and concentrated, yet fresh, with firm, fully ripe tannins and the structure associated with long ageing.

Since the 2008 vintage, this cuvée has carried the name Echo de Lynch-Bages; before that it was known as Château Haut-Bages Averous. It is conceived as a direct reflection of the estate's grand vin, generally with a rounder, softer and more approachable expression.
The 2021 vintage has a distinctly classic Bordeaux feel. It was a challenging, cool year, marked by moderate alcohol levels, freshness, good colour and aromatic complexity. The blend is 56% Merlot and 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, with hand-harvested and selected grapes from the Pauillac estate. Maturation took place for 12 months in one-year-old barrels.
