Château Croix Mouton 2021 is a dry red Bordeaux Supérieur with a clear Merlot identity. The vintage is made from 98% Merlot with 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, from Bordeaux's right bank, close to the Dordogne and the Fronsadais area.The producer describes 2021 as a challenging year, yet the wine is presented with colour, fruit and freshness. The vineyards are planted on clay and silt-rich soils with deep clay, in a landscape noted for its biodiversity. Careful vineyard work, controlled yields and a focus on ripeness all help shape the style of this vintage.
In the cellar, the approach was gentle: sorted grapes were moved into tank by gravity without crushing, then vinified in temperature-controlled vats with regular pigeage. Ageing took place partly in cask and mostly in vats, with several months on fine lees. The result is a Bordeaux Supérieur that keeps the fruit at the centre while retaining enough structure to feel properly Bordeaux.
