Château Croix Mouton 2020 is a red Bordeaux Supérieur with Merlot very much at the centre of the wine. For this vintage the blend is 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawn from vineyards in Lugon on the clay soils of l'Île du Carney, close to the Dordogne and on the edge of Fronsac. The result is a Bordeaux built around ripe, fleshy fruit, while keeping the fresh, approachable side associated with this wine.
The estate belongs to Jean-Philippe Janoueix Domaines. For the 2020 vintage, the grapes were sorted before vinification, fermented in concrete and stainless-steel vats, then aged for a short period on fine lees, with or without wood influence. The wine comes from Château Croix-Mouton in Lugon, on Bordeaux's right bank, within the range of Jean-Philippe Janoueix. The 2020 blend is led almost entirely by Merlot, with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The producer describes 2021 as a challenging year, yet the wine is presented with colour, fruit and freshness. The vineyards are planted on clay and silt-rich soils with deep clay, in a landscape noted for its biodiversity. Careful vineyard work, controlled yields and a focus on ripeness all help shape the style of this vintage.

It comes from Château Croix-Mouton in Lugon-et-l'Île-du-Carnay, on the right-bank side of Bordeaux, where clay and loam soils near the Dordogne and the Fronsadais shape the setting of the wine. The result is recognisably Bordeaux, yet presented in a fruit-led, approachable style.
The 2022 blend is built around 80% Merlot, supported by other Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Following a particularly warm, dry summer, the estate used careful grape sorting and a vinification approach based on limited extraction and low temperature to preserve the fruit.
