Château Léoville Poyferré 2021 Demi is the 37.5 cl half-bottle version of the estate's grand vin from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. As a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it sits firmly in the classical Bordeaux tradition: structured, detailed and built around depth rather than immediate softness.The estate describes 2021 as a cooler, more classical Bordeaux vintage than the three years before it. After a demanding growing season, picking took place from 28 September to 12 October, once the fruit had reached the desired maturity. The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot, a composition that helps explain the wine's firm Saint-Julien backbone.
In the cellar, the wine was vinified parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, most of them new. The emphasis for 2021 was to preserve freshness through gentle extraction while giving the wine enough structure for further bottle development.
