Flavour notes

The wine shows a deep ruby colour. Aromatically, it brings together red fruit, violets, cassis, blackcurrant, raspberry, dark cherry and plum, followed by notes of vanilla, cedar, tobacco, graphite, pencil shavings, liquorice, herbs, mint and cigar leaf.

On the palate it is taut, fresh and densely built, with ripe, soft to silky tannins. The fruit expression is precise and more linear than broad, supported by floral notes and well-integrated oak tones. The finish is clean and persistent, keeping the focus on freshness, structure and a classical Pauillac feel.

Product info about Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste 2021 Magnum (1,5l)

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2021 Magnum is a firmly rooted Pauillac with a classic Bordeaux profile. It is the grand vin of the estate, from AOP Pauillac in the Médoc, and the château is classified as a 5th Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. In magnum, the 2021 vintage feels especially appropriate for a wine built around structure, freshness and measured depth.

The year itself is described by the producer as cooler and more classical, with a return to a more moderate alcohol level and a different balance between acidity and alcohol than the three previous vintages. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon at 85%, with Merlot making up the remaining 15%. That Cabernet-driven identity sits naturally with Pauillac's deep gravel and pebble soils.

Everything in the production points towards precision rather than excess. The grapes were harvested by hand between 24 September and 8 October, then sorted twice, before and after destemming. A long vatting of around three weeks was followed by 16 to 18 months in fine-grained French oak barrels, 75% of them new. The oak influence is present, but the wine remains shaped by the fresh, structured nature of the vintage.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we would place in front of someone looking for a serious Pauillac with definition and a more restrained, linear build. The 1.5 litre magnum format makes it particularly fitting for a considered dinner, especially alongside veal, beef, lamb, duck, game or roasted, grilled and slowly cooked dishes. When opened young, some aeration can help the wine settle into itself.

About CH GRAND PUY LACOSTE

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a French wine producer with roots deeply embedded in the famous Bordeaux region, specifically in the Pauillac appellation within the Médoc. This estate has a rich history dating back to the 18th century and owes its name to the Grand-Puy plateau where the vineyards are located, combined with the family name of one of its former owners, Lacoste. The vineyard covers approximately 55 hectares and is mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. Wines from Grand-Puy-Lacoste are internationally renowned for their classic Pauillac style: robust, elegant, and with great aging potential. Production emphasizes traditional methods and respect for terroir, with the wine being matured in oak barrels, usually for 16 to 18 months. The estate has been owned by the Borie family since 1978, who are known for their careful management and commitment to quality. Thanks to consistent performance, a recognizable style, and a reliable reputation among wine enthusiasts, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste holds a solid place within the range of top-class Bordeaux wines.
