Clos Du Lican 2021 is a Chilean red wine with a very focused identity: one vineyard, one grape variety and a clearly defined origin. It comes from Apalta in the Colchagua Valley and is made from 100% Syrah grown in the Clos du Lican vineyard in the San José sector. The project was created by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and Cyril de Bournet, a few kilometres from Clos Apalta, with the aim of giving this particular Syrah site its own voice.The vineyard sits between 185 and 430 metres above sea level, in a hilly setting influenced by the cooling presence of the Tinguiririca River. Its stony, well-drained soils are derived from granitic and granodioritic material. Those details matter in the glass: they help frame a full, ripe Syrah that still carries freshness, structure and definition.
The 2021 vintage was cool and demanding, according to the producer. After an unusual rainfall event around véraison, temperatures stayed below historical averages and ripening progressed slowly. The wine was made with a long maceration, matured for 23 months in French oak barriques, and bottled without fining or filtration.
