Product info about Chateau Pontet Canet 2020
Château Pontet-Canet 2020 is a dry red Pauillac from Bordeaux, firmly rooted in the classical Médoc tradition. It is the grand vin of Château Pontet-Canet, a Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification in the Cinquième Cru category. The 2020 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot.What gives this vintage its particular interest is the way vineyard detail and ageing choices come together. The estate farms biodynamically and covers around 81 hectares in Pauillac, spread across numerous parcels overlooking the Gironde. Its central Pontet-Canet plateau is made up of Garonne gravel from the Günz period over limestone, a setting the château links with greater tannin precision, mineral length and a purer expression in the wines.
The growing season was demanding. Véraison began in sunny conditions in mid-July, followed by heavy storms in early August, and 2020 was also the first full vintage under technical director Mathieu Bessonnet. Ageing took place across new French oak barriques, concrete amphorae and one-year-old barrels, giving the wine more than a simple oak-led frame: fruit, structure and terroir remain central to the style.
For Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle that belongs among serious cellar-worthy Bordeaux selections. Specialist critics have rated the vintage very highly, with scores reaching 98 points, yet its real appeal lies in its capacity to develop over time. About CH PONTET CANET
Château Pontet-Canet is one of the renowned wineries from the Bordeaux region in France, located in the Pauillac appellation in the Medoc. The winery has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century, when it was founded by Jean-François de Pontet. Later it came into the hands of the Canet family, which led to the combined name. Since 1975 it has been owned by the Tesseron family, who have since invested heavily in both vineyards and winemaking facilities. The estate covers about 81 hectares, mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Pontet-Canet is classified as a Cinquième Cru according to the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. In recent decades, the switch to biodynamic viticulture has been characteristic; the estate was one of the first major châteaux in Bordeaux to be fully certified organic and biodynamic. This is reflected in a sustainable approach and a strong focus on the character of the terroir.
