L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne 2020 is a Sauternes with a name that feels entirely appropriate. This is not just a half bottle of sweet white Bordeaux, but a rare selection from Château Doisy-Daëne in Barsac, made from 100% sauvignon blanc and produced only in great vintages.Château Doisy-Daëne has deep roots in Sauternes: it is a Second Cru Classé from the 1855 classification and has belonged to the Dubourdieu family since 1924. For this cuvée, the focus is on remarkable concentration through noble rot, linked to sauvignon blanc grown on the limestone terroir of Barsac. The grapes are hand-picked in successive selections, taking only fruit that has reached the desired development of pourriture noble.
Fermentation takes place in oak barriques, with each picking and parcel initially kept separate before the early blend is made. Ageing continues in barriques for around 12 months. That careful approach matters here, because this wine is about intensity with control rather than sweetness alone.

Château Doisy Daëne is a French winery located in the Barsac appellation in the Bordeaux region. The estate is mainly known for its sweet white wines, produced primarily from Sémillon grapes, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the château has been owned by the Dubourdieu family, who have built a strong reputation in both traditional and modern winemaking. The vineyards of Château Doisy Daëne benefit from the unique microclimate of Barsac, which offers ideal conditions for noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) and thus contributes to the character of the sweet dessert wines. In addition to the classic Barsac, the estate also produces dry white Bordeaux wines, which is relatively unusual for this appellation. The wines of Château Doisy Daëne are known for their freshness, aromatic complexity and structure, qualities that are appreciated internationally. The combination of experience, terroir and craftsmanship makes the château one of the cornerstones of the region.
