Chateau Talbot 2018 is the red grand vin of Château Talbot from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux. This vintage carries extra meaning for the estate, as 2018 marked one hundred years since Désiré Cordier became owner in 1918. For the 75 cl release, that anniversary was reflected in a special screen-printed bottle.As a 4ème Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, Talbot has a firmly established place in the Médoc. The 2018 blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, with the Cabernet providing structure, Merlot adding roundness and Petit Verdot contributing a spicy detail. The grapes came from gravel soils, were harvested by hand and selected carefully before vinification in wooden vats.
Sixteen months in barriques, 60% of them new, gave the wine further depth while keeping its dark-fruited Saint-Julien identity at the centre. The vintage conditions help explain the style: after a wet winter and spring, the summer turned warm, sunny and dry, producing small, concentrated berries and wines with clear structure.
