Château Gruaud Larose 2019 is the grand vin of a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. Its identity is closely tied to place: vineyards in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, planted on Garonne gravel, give a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux with structure, dark fruit and a mineral edge.The 2019 blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Fermentation took place in a cellar using both cement vats and temperature-controlled wooden vats, followed by 18 months in French oak barriques, 80% of them new. In the tasting notes, the oak comes through as cedar, subtle toast, vanilla, spice and dark chocolate rather than as a dominant layer.
The growing season had several turning points: a wet first half of winter, early budbreak after a mild March, frost risk in April softened by the Gironde's influence, mildew pressure in spring, then drier summer conditions with heatwaves broken by storms. Rain shortly before harvest restored vine activity. Merlot picking began around 20 September, with the Cabernets harvested in early October. 2019 was also the year in which Château Gruaud Larose began its conversion to organic production.

About CH GRUAUD LAROSE
Château Gruaud Larose is a winery from the well-known Bordeaux region in France, located in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. This château belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus, or the second classified growths according to the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. Château Gruaud Larose is known for its rich history that dates back to the 18th century. The vineyards cover just over 80 hectares and are mostly planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a small proportion of Malbec. Gruaud Larose wines are often known for their powerful structure, complexity, and aging potential, which is typical for Saint-Julien. Production takes place entirely on the estate itself, from vineyard to bottling, with great attention paid to tradition and craftsmanship. In addition to the grand vin, Gruaud Larose also produces a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, made from younger vines and lots that do not make it into the main cuvée. The château has been owned by Groupe Taillan since the late 1990s, and is overseen by an experienced team that combines old traditions with modern techniques to ensure consistent quality.
