Château Lynch Bages 2021 Demi is the grand vin of Château Lynch-Bages in a 37.5 cl half bottle. It is not a separate cuvée, but the same Pauillac from this 1855 Grand Cru Classé estate, presented in a smaller format. In the Bordeaux selection at Drankenshop Broekmans, it stands out as a thoughtful way to approach a serious left-bank wine without opening a full bottle.The 2021 vintage came from a cooler, demanding year, yet the cabernets reached good maturity towards the end of September. Cabernet sauvignon leads the blend, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Eighteen months in French oak barrels, a large proportion of them new, add to the polished structure described in the tasting notes.
This is a wine built more for development than for simple early drinking. The available drinking windows all point towards further bottle ageing, and if opened young it benefits from air and from being served with its firm structure in mind. Classic meat dishes, lamb, beef, duck, game, roast poultry and grilled or slow-cooked preparations all sit naturally alongside it.
The vintage has received broad critical recognition, including strong ratings from Wine Enthusiast, Decanter, James Suckling, Vinous and Wine Spectator. Only the last bottles of this demi format remain with us.
