Clos du Clocher 2022 Demi is the 37.5 cl half-bottle format of Clos du Clocher 2022. The word Demi refers to the bottle size, not to a separate cuvée, so this is the same dry, still red Pomerol in a smaller bottle.The wine comes from the Pomerol plateau, close to the church that gives the estate its name. Gravel and clay soils, with blue clay and deep gravel beneath, form an important part of its origin. The 2022 blend is 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc. That cabernet franc share matters here: Clos du Clocher highlights the role of old cabernet franc vines, including plantings of around seventy years, for freshness, nuance and complexity.
The 2022 vintage brought early budbreak, a mild spring and a very dry summer. According to the available estate information, careful vineyard work helped the vines cope with those conditions. Grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, followed by further selection before vinification in small temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats, partly in barrels. Maturation lasted around 18 months, mainly in oak barrels, with the oak influence described as integrated.
