Flavour notes

The 2022 Cuvée Jean & Gabriel shows a concentrated medium to full-bodied Bordeaux profile, led by dark fruit. Cassis, blackberry, dark berries and plum are joined by red and black cherry, with a touch of forest fruit.

Around that fruit come more savoury and aromatic notes: liquorice, spice, smoke, graphite, leather, tobacco, mocha, menthol, lavender, toast and warm bread. The oak influence is noticeable, yet it sits within the wine rather than dominating it.

On the palate it is juicy and concentrated, with fresh acidity, a fleshy core of fruit and rounded, almost creamy tannins. The tannins are clearly present but not harsh, carrying the wine into a spicy, fairly long to long finish.

Product info about Chateau Bel-air Cuvee Jean & Gabriel 2022 Magnum (1,5l)

Château Bel-Air Cuvée Jean & Gabriel 2022 is a red Bordeaux from Lussac Saint-Émilion, bottled here as a 1.5 litre magnum. That larger format suits the wine well: this is a bottle with enough structure and depth to belong at the table, and with room to develop further in the cellar.

Jean & Gabriel is the estate's higher selection and is named in tribute to Jean and Gabriel Roi, relatives of the Roi family. The 2022 vintage is made from equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, sourced from old vines with an average age of around 45 years. Selected plots on blue clay soils form an important part of the wine's identity.

The winemaking is careful rather than forceful: small temperature-controlled cement vats, natural fermentation, gentle temperatures and slow extraction. Maturation lasts 16 months in barrels of different ages and sizes, giving the wine a clear but integrated oak frame.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this magnum is the kind of Bordeaux we like to present to customers looking for Lussac Saint-Émilion with substance, firm tannins and a proper place at dinner. Red meat, game and mature cheeses are natural matches, and the wine's structure also supports further bottle ageing.
