Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2022 Demi is the half-bottle version of the estate's grand vin. The format is smaller, but the wine is the same cuvée as the regular bottle: a red Pauillac from a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 classification.The 2022 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot. That Cabernet focus is closely tied to the estate's position on the gravelly croupes of Grand-Puy, west of the village of Pauillac. The grapes were hand-harvested during what is described as a historically early harvest for the château, followed by a double selection and a long cuvaison of around three weeks.
Maturation took place in fine-grained French oak barriques, 75% of them new. It gives the wine a recognisable Pauillac frame, with the wood influence expressed through notes such as cedar, tobacco, spice and pencil shavings rather than overshadowing the dark fruit. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this demi-bottle is particularly interesting for those who want a serious Bordeaux in a more flexible size, especially as these are the last bottles.
