Product info about Le Petit Clos 2021 Magnum (1,5l)
Le Petit Clos 2021 is the second wine of Clos Apalta, from Apalta in Chile. It is described by the producer as another interpretation of the same Apalta terroir, rather than a simple step down from the main label. Carmenère leads the blend, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc.The fruit comes from the Apalta vineyard, managed organically and certified through Sustainable Wine of Chile and Ecocert. The 2021 season was cooler and slower-ripening than the previous years, with healthy grapes and a long harvest window. That background matters here, because the wine combines depth and ripeness with a fresh line through the palate.
Fermentation took place in French oak vats, with a long maceration and manual pigeage. The wine then spent 19 months in French oak barrels, partly new and partly second-use, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a Chilean red with real substance: Bordeaux-inspired in composition, yet clearly shaped by Carmenère and the Apalta vineyard.
The 1.5-litre magnum format gives Le Petit Clos 2021 extra presence on the table. This vintage also received strong recognition, including 96 points from James Suckling and 96 points from Vinous. With the last bottles now available, it is a release we present with particular attention.
