Flavour notes

The colour ranges from carmine red to deep cherry red. Aromatically, it brings together forest floor, garrigue, black fruit and tapenade, with notes of cocoa, hazelnut and Mediterranean herbs.

On the palate it is structured, layered and textural, with medium to full body. Plum, cherry, cassis, pomegranate and dark berries are joined by pepper, rosemary, liquorice and dark chocolate. The tannins are fine but still youthful, giving the wine a firm backbone.

The finish is long, carrying spice, earthy notes, a slight saline touch and a graphite-like impression.

Product info about Chateau D'aussieres 2020

Chateau D'Aussieres 2020 is a red Corbières with a clearly Mediterranean identity. It comes from Domaine d'Aussières, part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, and is sourced from selected higher hillside plots near Narbonne, just inland from the coast.

The 2020 blend is 77% Syrah and 23% Mourvèdre. The grapes are grown on shallow sandstone soils with little clay, where water is limited and yields remain low. Green harvesting and strict selection give the wine its sense of concentration and precision.

In the cellar, the approach is traditional: fermentation in stainless steel and concrete, controlled extraction, and ageing for part of the wine in oak. Around 45% sees barrel maturation, including a portion of new oak, with 18 months of ageing mentioned for this release. It gives the wine a serious frame without taking it away from its dark fruit, spice and southern herbal character.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a Corbières for customers who appreciate depth, structure and ageing potential in southern French red wine. The 2020 vintage also received strong international recognition, with scores around 92 to 93 points. Serve it at about 16 to 18°C; if opened young, decanting is a sensible choice. It sits naturally alongside grilled red meat, lamb, game, slow-cooked dishes and firm cheeses.

About CHATEAU D'AUSSIERES

Chateau D'Aussieres is a wine estate located in Languedoc, southern France, a region known for its rich wine tradition and varied terroir. The estate is connected to the Corbieres appellation, one of the largest and oldest wine regions in the Languedoc, where classic grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignan play an important role. Chateau D'Aussieres is part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), a respected name within the international wine world, which is reflected in their pursuit of quality and careful selection of grapes. The vineyards are spread across a varied landscape with limestone and clay soils, and benefit from the Mediterranean climate that contributes to the ripening and expression of the wines. The style of Chateau D'Aussieres is characterized by a combination of power, structure and refined spiciness, typical properties that fit Corbieres wines. In the assortment, one finds both robust red wines and elegant white varieties, where modern viticulture meets respect for local traditions. Thanks to this approach, Chateau D'Aussieres profiles itself as an interesting representative of contemporary Languedoc wines.
