Château Clos René 2021 Demi is the 37.5 cl half-bottle of a red Pomerol from Bordeaux. The smaller format does not indicate a separate cuvée; it is the same Clos René 2021, simply bottled in a more modest size.Clos René is a family estate in Pomerol, run by Jean-Marie Garde. The wine is built around Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc, with a small presence of Malbec often noted as a distinctive feature of the estate. Its vineyards are described as lying on the western slope of the Pomerol plateau, on old gravel and sandy soils with an iron-rich subsoil.
The 2021 vintage shows the cooler, more classical side of Bordeaux. Frost pressure and a difficult growing season shaped a wine that is more medium-bodied and fresh than broad or heavily concentrated. Clos Rene is a French wine producer located in the Bordeaux region, specifically in the Pomerol wine area on the right bank of the Dordogne. The vineyard of Clos Rene has a long wine tradition that dates back to the end of the 19th century. The name Clos Rene refers to a so-called 'clos', a walled vineyard, which used to be a mark of quality winegrowing in this area. The vineyards cover about 15 hectares and are planted with grape varieties typical for Pomerol, such as merlot, cabernet franc and a small percentage of malbec. Clos Rene wines are usually known for their accessible style, with fruity notes and a soft structure, which means they can be ready to drink relatively young, but also have the potential to age. The Garde family and Jean-Marie Garde have long been involved in managing the estate, and production partly adheres to traditional methods of vinification and maturation in oak. The location on clay and gravel soils contributes to the character of the wine, which is often appreciated for its balance between power and finesse within the Pomerol appellation.
