Château Le Bon Pasteur 2021 in magnum is a Pomerol with a composed, polished presence. The estate is based in Maillet and works around 6.5 hectares of vineyard on gravel-clay soils near the border between Pomerol and Saint-Émilion. That setting matters here, because the wine brings together Pomerol roundness with a more structured, defined side.The 2021 blend is 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, from vines averaging 40 years of age. The season began mild and wet, with challenges in spring and early summer, before the final five weeks before harvest turned warm, dry and sunny. The château describes the vintage as fresher and aromatic, with silky fruit compared with the warmer years that came before it.
Harvesting was done by hand, followed by careful selection. Fermentation took place entirely in new French oak barriques, and the wine then matured for 12 to 15 months in French oak, 70% of it new.
