Château Bellevue-Mondotte 2021 is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru with a story that reaches beyond the vintage itself. It comes from a very small estate on the clay-limestone plateau southeast of the village of Saint-Émilion, close to Château Pavie-Decesse. The vineyard covers around 2.5 hectares and belongs to Vignobles Perse, the group associated with Gérard Perse.The 2021 vintage is especially noteworthy because it is the final release under the Château Bellevue-Mondotte name. From the following vintage onward, the vineyards were integrated into Château Pavie. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as more than a label detail: it is the closing chapter of a tiny Saint-Émilion origin.
For 2021, the wine is made from 100% Merlot, sourced from old vines on the clay-limestone plateau. The winemaking follows a serious Bordeaux approach, with manual harvesting and sorting, fermentation with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, malolactic fermentation in barriques and long ageing in barrique with a high proportion of new oak. Estate information also notes that the wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
In style, Bellevue-Mondotte 2021 combines ripe dark fruit with floral notes, mint-like freshness, spice and a chalky mineral thread. The tannins are described as present yet refined, giving the wine structure for further development.
