Marquis De Calon Segur 2021 is the second wine of Château Calon Segur from Saint-Estèphe in Bordeaux. For this vintage, the blend is led by merlot, with 58% merlot and 42% cabernet sauvignon, giving the wine a fruit-driven expression while keeping the firm, classic frame associated with its appellation.The 2021 vintage in Saint-Estèphe was cooler and more demanding than warmer Bordeaux years, making selection especially important. The grapes were hand-harvested, checked first in the vineyard and then sorted again by hand. That careful approach is reflected in the style described for this wine: fresh, lively and structured without feeling heavy.
Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 17 months in barriques, 30% of them new. The oak influence appears through cedar and tobacco tones, supporting the wine rather than dominating it. About CH CALON SEGUR
Château Calon Sëgur is a historic winery from the French Bordeaux region and belongs to the renowned appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century, with the name Calon referring to an old type of boat used to transport wood along the river. The current castle and wine estate became especially famous under the Sëgur family, who were in charge in the 18th century and were also responsible for other major Bordeaux names. Château Calon Sëgur was classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, meaning that since then it has been recognized as one of the third growths of the region. The vineyards cover approximately 55 hectares, with mainly the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines of Calon Sëgur are known for their combination of power and elegance, with a strong character typical of Saint-Estèphe, but with remarkable finesse and aging potential. Today, the château is still highly regarded among Bordeaux enthusiasts and, besides the Grand Vin, also offers a second wine, Le Marquis de Calon Sëgur.
