Château Léoville Barton 2021 is the estate's grand vin, a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien with a firm place in Médoc history. As a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries a serious pedigree, but the real interest here lies in the way the 2021 vintage expresses a classical, structured Saint-Julien style.The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon at 84%, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from the château's vineyards on Garonne gravel with a clay subsoil, facing the Gironde. The estate describes traditional vineyard work without weedkillers or herbicides, with the grapes harvested entirely by hand.
After parcel-by-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled wooden vats, the wine is aged in French oak barriques, with a significant share of new oak. The 2021 vintage is often placed in a fresher, more classical Bordeaux register than some riper preceding years, yet this wine is noted for having concentration and depth within that frame.
