Château Giscours 2021 Magnum is the grand vin of Château Giscours in Margaux, offered here in the generous 1.5-litre format. The magnum is not a separate cuvée; it is the same Château Giscours 2021, a red Bordeaux blend from a property classified in 1855 and generally referred to as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé.The 2021 vintage is a year of precision rather than excess. The estate describes it as its 450th vintage, shaped by a cooler, wetter summer and a favourable autumn that allowed Cabernet Sauvignon to continue ripening. Cabernet Sauvignon clearly leads the blend at 65%, supported by 32% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Deep gravel soils of Garonne origin and careful parcel selection help define a wine described by the estate as fresh, taut and structured.
After manual and optical sorting, the wine was vinified in concrete and stainless-steel vats, with a 35-day maceration. It then matured for 17 months in French oak barriques, half of them new. The wine estate has a history dating back to the 14th century but began producing wine on a significant scale in the 19th century. Château Giscours was recognized in 1855 as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé during the renowned classification of Bordeaux wines, indicating that it belongs to the leading wine estates of the region. The vineyards of Giscours cover more than 80 hectares, primarily with cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and a small share of cabernet franc and petit verdot.
