Flavour notes

The aromatic profile brings together cassis, black cherry, dark berries and blueberry, with floral touches of rose and violet. The cabernet character also shows through mint, menthol, liquorice, tobacco, cedar and graphite, alongside wet slate, clove, cacao, orange peel, dried herbs and forest floor.

On the palate it is described as medium to medium-full in body, with fresh acidity and tannins that range from fine to firm. The structure is taut and precise, at times silky and polished, at times more linear and slightly austere in keeping with the cooler, fresher style of the vintage. The finish is long, with spicy and mineral-toned accents.

Product info about Chateau Giscours 2021

Château Giscours 2021 is the Grand Vin of Château Giscours in Margaux, on Bordeaux's Left Bank. The estate is a Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, more precisely a Troisième Cru Classé, and this vintage carries an extra historical note: at Giscours, 2021 is regarded as the estate's 450th vintage.

The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a small proportion of petit verdot. That cabernet focus is closely linked to the Giscours terroir in Labarde, where deep Garonne gravel soils play an important role in ripening the variety. The 2021 growing season demanded precision, especially at harvest, with the cabernet sauvignon picked over several passes to follow ripeness parcel by parcel.

In the cellar, that same careful approach continued with manual and optical sorting, vinification in concrete and stainless steel, and 17 months of ageing in French oak barriques, half of them new. The style is described as fresh, taut and structured, less exuberant than warmer recent years, with fine tannins, clear cabernet definition and a more linear sense of tension.

Within the Bordeaux range at Drankenshop Broekmans, this is a Margaux for drinkers who appreciate precision, freshness and classical structure. These are the last bottles, making this particular vintage of Giscours all the more worth considering while it is still on the shelf. A light decant can help the aromas of the young wine open up.

The aromatic profile brings together cassis, black cherry, dark berries and blueberry, with floral touches of rose and violet. About CH GISCOURS

Château Giscours is a historic winery from the Bordeaux region in France, located in Margaux on the left bank of the Gironde. The wine estate has a history dating back to the 14th century but began producing wine on a significant scale in the 19th century. Château Giscours was recognized in 1855 as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé during the renowned classification of Bordeaux wines, indicating that it belongs to the leading wine estates of the region. The vineyards of Giscours cover more than 80 hectares, primarily with cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and a small share of cabernet franc and petit verdot. The production is traditionally focused on balanced, elegant red wines known for their aging potential and characteristic Margaux style: refined, with notes of dark fruit, cedarwood, and spices. The château itself is surrounded by gardens and historic buildings, which adds to the classic character of the estate. Château Giscours is currently owned by the Albada Jelgersma family, who invest in quality and innovation, with respect for tradition as a top priority.
