Château Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge 2021 Demi is the red grand vin of Château Smith Haut Lafitte from Martillac in Pessac-Léognan. The word Demi refers to the 37.5 cl half-bottle format, not to a separate cuvée, making it a particularly useful way to enjoy a serious Bordeaux without opening a full bottle.The 2021 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, cabernet franc and a small proportion of petit verdot. For this vintage the estate refers to organic and biodynamic farming, with vines averaging 48 years of age on the Günz gravel soils of Pessac-Léognan. That gravel-rich setting is closely linked by the producer to the wine's smoky, mineral signature.

At Smith Haut Lafitte, whole berries were vinified in small wooden vats, with gentle extraction by manual pigeage. The wine then matured for 18 months in barriques, 60% of them new, produced in the château's own cooperage.

Smith Haut Lafitte is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 14th century, but the name Smith Haut Lafitte became known in the 18th century thanks to the Scottish merchant George Smith, who acquired the estate and linked his name to it. Today, the Château is owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have been managing it since 1990. Smith Haut Lafitte produces both red and white wines, with the reds generally made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the whites mainly from Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris.
