Flavour notes

In the glass, the wine shows ruby to garnet reflections. The aroma centres on red and darker fruit: cherry, sour cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, plum and damson, alongside blood orange, rosehip, violet and iris.

More savoury layers follow, with spicy, balsamic and earthy accents. Tobacco, cedar, green tea, cinnamon, pepper, turmeric, liquorice, wild sage, smoke and stony minerality add depth, while the oak influence is described as supportive rather than heavy.

On the palate it is fresh and layered, with clear acidity and fine yet present tannins. Bright red fruit, mineral impressions and savoury notes give the wine tension, and the finish is described as long.

Product info about Giodo Brunello Di Montalcino 2019

Giodo Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is the main Brunello from Podere Giodo, Carlo Ferrini's Montalcino project. It is a Tuscan red wine under the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG designation, made from Sangiovese in line with the appellation's rules.

The wine is linked to a small amphitheatre-like vineyard parcel around La Poderina, at roughly 300 metres altitude, with light, stony soils and views towards Monte Amiata. For this Brunello, Giodo selects only the estate's Sangiovese grapes considered suitable for its longest-maturing wine. That helps explain the style described for the 2019: focused on precision, freshness and structure rather than sheer weight.

Its maturation is deliberately layered. After fermentation and skin contact, the wine spends around 30 months in oak casks of various sizes, followed by time in cement and then bottle ageing. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Italian wine we like to present to customers who are looking for serious Brunello with depth, tension and long-term potential.

The 2019 vintage for Giodo received very high praise from several international critics. With only the last bottles remaining, it is especially worth noting for anyone who wants to follow this particular vintage over time or serve it with robust dishes such as red meat, game, pork, beef or mature cheeses.

About GIODO

Giodo is a wine brand originating from Tuscany, Italy, founded by winemaker Carlo Ferrini, a name that enjoys great recognition within the Italian wine world. As an oenologist with decades of experience, Ferrini chose to start his own project with complete focus on quality and terroir. The vineyards of Giodo are located in the famous region of Montalcino, where mainly Sangiovese grapes are cultivated. Giodo emphasizes sustainable viticulture and selects only the best grapes for vinification. The assortment consists of wines such as Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and a Rosso Toscana IGT, both characterized by an elegant style and a pure, thoughtful character. Giodo operates with relatively small production volumes, where every step in the process, from vineyard to bottling, is under Ferrini's personal supervision. Although Giodo is a relatively young label compared to traditional wineries from the region, it has quickly built a strong reputation among connoisseurs and is regularly positively featured in the international wine press.
