Product info about L'aventure Optimus 2021
L'Aventure Optimus 2021 is a Paso Robles red that captures the estate's own approach to blending Rhône and Bordeaux varieties in California. The wine brings together Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, all grown on L'Aventure Vineyard in the Willow Creek District. Optimus is positioned by the winery as an introduction to its range, yet the 2021 clearly carries serious depth, structure and vineyard character.L'Aventure was founded in 1998 by Stephan Asseo, after his earlier work in Bordeaux. The estate sits on the western side of Paso Robles, where rolling terrain, complex well-drained soils and maritime influence help shape wines with ripe fruit and freshness. For this vintage, the fruit came from low yields, the malolactic fermentation took place in barrel, and the wine spent 16 months in French oak, half new and half one-year-old. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we would point to when someone wants a powerful American red with detail rather than just weight. The 2021 received strong recognition from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck, but its real interest lies in the meeting of dark fruit, spice, floral notes and mineral tension. Several tasting notes mention that it benefits from air, so a short decant is a sensible choice when opening it young.
The producer indicates a drinking window of more than ten years for Optimus. The 2021 can therefore be cellared further, while already giving a compelling impression of L'Aventure and Paso Robles when allowed to open in the glass.

L'Aventure is a wine brand from the United States with roots in the Paso Robles region, Californiâ. The estate was founded in 1998 by the French winemaker Stephan Asseo, who, after years of experience in Bordeaux, decided to realize his own vision of winemaking in Californiâ. The vineyards are located in the western part of Paso Robles, an area known for its calcareous soils and distinctive Mediterranean climate. L'Aventure is especially known for its blends of Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Petit Verdot. By combining traditional French techniques with the possibilities of Californian terroir, the winery is able to produce powerful and concentrated wines that are often characterized by depth and structure.
