Product info about Quinta Do Vesuvio 2021
Quinta do Vesuvio 2021 is a dry red wine from Portugal's Douro Superior, produced at Quinta do Vesúvio. It is the estate's flagship dry Douro red, alongside the Vintage Ports for which the property is historically known. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see it as a serious, structured Douro wine shaped as much by its site as by the notably cool 2021 growing season.The blend is led by Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, with a small addition of Tinta Amarela. The grapes were hand-harvested, carefully sorted and moved by gravity into small fermentation tanks. After fermentation, extended maceration helped build structure and mouthfeel, followed by 15 months in French oak barrels, a large proportion of them new.
What makes the 2021 vintage especially interesting is its freshness. The Douro experienced one of its cooler recent seasons, with slow ripening and cool nights that helped preserve acidity and colour intensity. The result is a dry red with concentration, oak ageing and depth, yet with a firm, focused line running through it.
The producer notes that the wine is approachable now and may continue to develop favourably until 2034. With only limited bottles remaining, it is a thoughtful choice for anyone looking for a Portuguese red built on dark fruit, floral detail, spice, fine-grained tannins and a clearly defined Douro structure.
