Product info about Vik Millahue 2019
Vik Millahue 2019 is the flagship wine of Viña VIK from Millahue in Chile's Cachapoal Valley. It is a Bordeaux-style red blend made from 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc. Millahue refers to the wine's origin, and according to the producer the name means place of gold, a reference to the Mapuche name for the area.The wine brings together a very specific site and a carefully handled vintage. The grapes come from deep, porous, weathered granite soils with good drainage, in a temperate Mediterranean climate shaped by maritime influence. Viña VIK harvests by hand at night, when temperatures are lower, and fermentation takes place spontaneously, without added yeasts.
Maturation is given real importance here: 20 months in French oak barrels, followed by 6 months in Barroir barrels. Barroir is VIK's own approach, combining oak barrels with wood from trees that have fallen on the estate during the toasting process. The 2019 vintage was relatively cool, bringing ripe, dark fruit together with freshness, structure and refined tannins.

Vik Millahue is a Chilean wine brand originating from the Millahue Valley in the Cachapoal region, central Chile. The winery is part of VIK Winery, founded in 2006 by the Norwegian-Colombian duo Alexander and Carrie Vik. Since its establishment, there has been intensive investment in both sustainable viticulture and architecture; the distinctive winery building was designed by architect Smiljan Radic and serves as an eye-catcher in the region. The vineyards were chosen for a unique location in the Millahue Valley, where different soil types and microclimates converge. This terroir forms the basis of the wines, which usually consist of blends of international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
