Product info about Le Petit Clos 2020
Le Petit Clos 2020 is the second wine of Clos Apalta, though second should not be read as secondary in ambition. It is a different interpretation of the same Apalta Valley terroir in Chile, made as a red Bordeaux-style blend with Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Petit Verdot. Fruit from younger vines and a different assemblage give it its own place beside the grand vin.The 2020 vintage was far from straightforward. A dry, warm growing season led to an earlier harvest, with careful parcel-by-parcel decisions needed because ripeness was not uniform everywhere. Even so, the fruit remained healthy and the vintage retained notably good acidity, an important counterpoint to the wine's natural ripeness and concentration.
In the cellar, Le Petit Clos 2020 received serious treatment: a long maceration, fermentation in French oak vats and 26 months in French barriques, with a mix of new oak and second-use barrels. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered, underlining its dense and structured style.
