Château Gruaud Larose 2021 is the grand vin of this Saint-Julien estate in the Médoc. As a Second Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries real Bordeaux pedigree, yet the 2021 vintage is less about sheer power and more about freshness, tension and careful selection.Cabernet Sauvignon forms the heart of the blend, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The estate describes 2021 as a year that required patience: a cool, wet spring, a later path to full ripeness and a final phase in which Cabernet Sauvignon came strongly into its own. Harvesting was done by hand, with selection in the vineyard and double sorting at the cellar.
The vineyard work is described as following organic and biodynamic principles across the estate, with conversion to organic production underway since 2019. After parcel-by-parcel vinification, the wine spent 18 months in fine-grained French oak barrels, mostly new, giving structure while preserving the fresher signature of the year.
In the Bordeaux selection at Drankenshop Broekmans, this is a bottle for those who appreciate the more classical side of Saint-Julien: dark fruit, graphite-like depth, firm polish and the capacity to develop in bottle. About CH GRUAUD LAROSE
Château Gruaud Larose is a winery from the well-known Bordeaux region in France, located in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. This château belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus, or the second classified growths according to the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. Château Gruaud Larose is known for its rich history that dates back to the 18th century. The vineyards cover just over 80 hectares and are mostly planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a small proportion of Malbec. Gruaud Larose wines are often known for their powerful structure, complexity, and aging potential, which is typical for Saint-Julien. Production takes place entirely on the estate itself, from vineyard to bottling, with great attention paid to tradition and craftsmanship. In addition to the grand vin, Gruaud Larose also produces a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, made from younger vines and lots that do not make it into the main cuvée. The château has been owned by Groupe Taillan since the late 1990s, and is overseen by an experienced team that combines old traditions with modern techniques to ensure consistent quality.
