Product info about Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio Riserva 2016
Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio Riserva 2016 comes from a very specific corner of Piedmont: the historic Cerequio cru, between La Morra and Barolo. For this Riserva, Michele Chiarlo uses nebbiolo from a 0.90-hectare parcel planted in 1972. That gives the wine a clear sense of place from the start: this is not a broad interpretation of Barolo, but a focused expression of one carefully defined vineyard area.According to the producer, the Riserva is made only in exceptional vintages. The 2016 season was regular, without significant weather irregularities, and brought healthy, evenly ripe grapes. After green harvesting at the end of August, ripening continued on a smaller number of bunches, helped by sunny days and cool nights. The nebbiolo for Barolo was harvested by hand between 6 and 12 October.
Time plays an important role here. Fermentation took place in oak vats, with 30 days of skin contact, followed by at least six years of maturation in total: around three years in large wooden casks and three years in bottle. With only the last bottles remaining, it becomes especially interesting for those looking for a serious, mature expression of Piedmont.
Serve at around 18 °C. The producer suggests pairings such as tagliolini with Alba white truffle, stews, Barolo risotto and aged cheeses; game, lamb and hard or long-matured cheeses also sit naturally alongside this wine.

Michele Chiarlo is an Italian wine producer from Piemonte, founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo himself. The family company has been active since the beginning in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of Northern Italy, and has strongly focused on producing wines that reflect the character of the region. The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others. Quality and terroir are central in the winery's approach; a lot of attention is paid to sustainable viticultural practices and a careful selection of grapes. The assortment of Michele Chiarlo ranges from fresh, floral white wines to structured, complex red wines that are typical for Piemonte.
