Flavour notes

The colour moves from ruby red towards garnet, with bright reflections. Aromatically, it brings together ripe fruit, ripe red cherry, darker fruit tones and plum, followed by mint, eucalyptus and menthol. Rose, gentian, fine herbs and sweet spices add a more lifted and detailed aromatic layer.

On the palate it is rich and structured, with compact tannins that are fine yet clearly present. Leather, tobacco, incense, tar, earthy notes and an iron-like mineral edge deepen the fruit expression. The finish is long and tense, leaving a balsamic, gently spicy impression.

Product info about Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio 2019 Magnum (1,5l)

Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cerequio 2019 Magnum presents one of Barolo's notable crus in a generous 1.5 litre bottle. This is Michele Chiarlo's Cerequio cru bottling, from the MGA of the same name between La Morra and Barolo, made entirely from nebbiolo.

Cerequio is not just a broad indication on the label; it refers to a specific vineyard setting. The site lies at around 320 metres, with a south-southwest exposure and calcareous clay-marl soils of marine sedimentary origin. The vines used for this wine were planted between 1972 and 1990. For the 2019 vintage, the grapes were harvested by hand in early October, after a growing season marked by good water reserves and significant day-night temperature differences towards the end of ripening.

In the cellar, the approach remains firmly rooted in classic Barolo. Fermentation and maceration take place in oak vats, followed by at least three years of maturation, including two years in medium-sized oak casks. It is a style built around structure, length and development rather than immediate simplicity.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this magnum as a wine for those who appreciate Barolo through origin, patience and depth. The 2019 vintage received strong international recognition and is described by the estate as a classic year, with an open bouquet, harmonious taste and serious ageing potential. With the last bottles now available, this is a compelling format for the cellar, a generous table or a gastronomic occasion with roasted meats, game, truffle dishes or mature cheeses.

Michele Chiarlo is an Italian wine producer from Piemonte, founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo himself. The family company has been active since the beginning in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of Northern Italy, and has strongly focused on producing wines that reflect the character of the region. The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others. Quality and terroir are central in the winery's approach; a lot of attention is paid to sustainable viticultural practices and a careful selection of grapes. The assortment of Michele Chiarlo ranges from fresh, floral white wines to structured, complex red wines that are typical for Piemonte. The wines of the house are known for their balance and accessibility, and are appreciated worldwide. Nowadays, the company is still led by the Chiarlo family, with the next generation actively involved in the management and preservation of the family tradition.
