Domaine de Chevalier 2020 Rouge is the red grand vin of the estate in Léognan, within the Pessac-Léognan A.O.C. It is a dry red Bordeaux from France and part of the Crus Classés de Graves, with its identity closely tied to gravel soils, a clay-gravel subsoil and the wooded setting of the estate.The 2020 vintage was early, sunny and warm. After a wet spring, July was very hot and dry, August brought useful rain, and September was dry and warm with clear day-to-night temperature differences. In the glass, that background translates into ripeness and concentration, but also into the freshness needed to keep a wine of this structure in line. The blend is 55% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 5% cabernet franc.
There is serious selection behind this wine: hand-picking in small crates, sorting in the vineyard, manual sorting of bunches in the cellar and optical sorting of the berries after destemming. Maturation lasted 18 months in barriques, with 35% new oak, giving support to the wine's depth and structure.
