Haut Bailly II 2020 is the second wine of Château Haut-Bailly from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. It comes from the same vineyard parcels as the grand vin, but from a separate, strict selection intended to show the terroir in a more approachable way. Since the 2018 vintage, this wine has carried the name Haut Bailly II; before that, it was released as La Parde de Haut-Bailly.The 2020 blend is 54% merlot and 46% cabernet sauvignon. It reflects a vintage of strong contrasts, with historic spring rainfall followed by a warmer than normal and exceptionally dry summer. Harvest took place from 9 to 25 September, with grapes described by the estate as ripe, fruity, sugar-rich and concentrated.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, the interest here lies in the way this wine keeps the serious tone of Haut-Bailly while being designed for earlier enjoyment than the grand vin. The selected lots are marked by fruity freshness and an elegant, supple structure, yet the wine still has ageing potential. Maturation in French oak, with around 30% new oak on average for Haut Bailly II, adds shape without taking attention away from the fruit.

About CH HAUT BAILLY
Château Haut-Bailly is a well-known name from the French Bordeaux region and is located in the heart of Pessac-Lëognan, just south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 16th century and has long been known for producing red wines mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The château owns around 30 hectares of vineyards on a unique sandy gravel soil, which contributes to the distinctive elegance and structure of the wines. Since 1998, Château Haut-Bailly has been owned by the Wilmers family; recently, ownership has passed on to their descendants, with input from an international team. The winery is known for a refined, balanced style, where power and finesse meet, which is typically appreciated by international wine enthusiasts and critics.
