Le Comte de Malartic Lagravière 2020 Magnum is a dry white Bordeaux from Pessac-Léognan, produced by Château Malartic-Lagravière in Léognan. It is the estate's second white wine, known from the 2020 vintage as Le Comte de Malartic Blanc.The blend is built around 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon. The grapes were hand-harvested in successive passes, followed by fermentation in oak barrels and 12 months of ageing on the lees in French oak, with bâtonnage and a restrained proportion of new oak. That explains the combination of freshness, aromatic precision and gentle roundness found in the wine.
In magnum, the 1.5-litre bottle gives this white Pessac-Léognan an extra sense of occasion at the table. Château Malartic-Lagravière is a well-known wine producer from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pessac-Lëognan appellation, part of Graves. The château has a history dating back to the eighteenth century, having known several owners before the Bonnie family took over the estate in 1997. The vineyards cover around 53 hectares and are planted with classic Bordeaux grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot for red, and Sauvignon Blanc, Sëmillon with a small proportion of Muscadelle for white. Château Malartic-Lagravière belongs to the select group of Graves vineyards that achieved cru classé status for both red and white during the 1953 classification (revised in 1959). The winery is appreciated for an elegant style and strives to produce wines that clearly express the terroir, supported by modern vinification techniques and sustainable vineyard practices. The wines are often characterised by a balance of freshness and structure, with the red varieties typically showing notes of ripe fruit and subtle oak influences, while the white wines are fresh, mineral and aromatic.
