Sarget De Gruaud Larose 2020 is the second wine of Château Gruaud Larose in Saint-Julien, a château closely tied to the classic Left Bank identity of Bordeaux. In this vintage, merlot and cabernet sauvignon sit almost side by side in the blend, with petit verdot and cabernet franc adding further detail. The result stays firmly within the Saint-Julien style, while offering a more immediate reading than the château's first wine.There is a clear sense of selection behind the bottle. The grapes were hand-harvested, sorted in the vineyard and then sorted again on arrival. Vinification was carried out by plot, grape variety, terroir and vine age, followed by at least fourteen months in fine-grained French oak barriques. With only a modest proportion of new oak, the ageing supports the wine rather than taking over from the fruit.
The 2020 growing season asked for precision: a very wet winter, a warm and humid spring, a long dry spell, and timely storms that influenced the final ripening and harvest decisions. About CH GRUAUD LAROSE
Château Gruaud Larose is a winery from the well-known Bordeaux region in France, located in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. This château belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus, or the second classified growths according to the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. Château Gruaud Larose is known for its rich history that dates back to the 18th century. The vineyards cover just over 80 hectares and are mostly planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a small proportion of Malbec. Gruaud Larose wines are often known for their powerful structure, complexity, and aging potential, which is typical for Saint-Julien. Production takes place entirely on the estate itself, from vineyard to bottling, with great attention paid to tradition and craftsmanship. In addition to the grand vin, Gruaud Larose also produces a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, made from younger vines and lots that do not make it into the main cuvée. The château has been owned by Groupe Taillan since the late 1990s, and is overseen by an experienced team that combines old traditions with modern techniques to ensure consistent quality.
