Clos Haut-Peyraguey 2020 in magnum is a Sauternes with real presence: a sweet white wine from Bordeaux, presented in a 1.5 litre bottle and rooted in one of the appellation's historic estates. The property in Bommes is one of the Premiers Crus Classés of Sauternes from the 1855 classification, with a history linked to the old Peyraguey estate, whose first harvest is traced back to 1618.The magnum format does not indicate a separate cuvée, but it certainly gives this vintage a different sense of occasion. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this bottle stands out for that combination of classified Sauternes heritage, generous format and limited remaining availability.
The 2020 blend is 95% sémillon and 5% sauvignon blanc. The grapes come from the estate's vineyards in Bommes, on the higher parts of the plateau, with gravel and sand over a clay subsoil. Harvesting was carried out by hand in several passes between 14 September and 12 October 2020, reflecting the selection required for a noble rot sweet wine.
Fermentation took place in oak barrels, using new or used wood depending on the selection, and the wine was bottled in spring 2022. Guide Hachette gives a drinking window from 2026 to 2035 and mentions pairings such as aperitif moments, foie gras, poultry, Roquefort and fruit desserts.

Clos Haut Peyraguey is a wine estate from the Sauternes region in France, specifically located in Bommes, in the heart of the renowned Bordeaux area. The estate belongs to the classified Premier Cru Classé of 1855 and is known for its sweet white wines, made from traditional grape varietals such as Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle. The vineyards are situated on a fertile ridge close to the Ciron river, a location that, due to its unique microclimate, creates ideal conditions for the noble rot Botrytis cinerea, essential for the production of Sauternes wine.
