Flavour notes

In the glass, Rubicon 2019 is described as ruby-coloured and opaque, with a violet rim. The aroma is driven by dark fruit, showing blackberry, black cherry, cassis, dark berries, red currant and plum, alongside floral notes, dried herbs, sage and blackcurrant bud.

Deeper layers bring espresso, coffee, chocolate, tobacco, cedar, graphite, black liquorice, anise, clove, vanilla, caramel and toasted wood. The palate is described as medium-full to full-bodied, with fine to chalky tannins, lively acidity, a firm core and a long finish.

When opened young, it benefits from air or decanting. Serving it at cellar temperature, around 16 to 18 °C, suits the wine's structure well.

Product info about Inglenook Rubicon 2019 Dubbele Magnum (3l)

Inglenook Rubicon 2019 is a serious red wine from Rutherford in Napa Valley, made in a Bordeaux-inspired style with Cabernet Sauvignon at the centre of the blend. Rubicon is Inglenook's flagship red cuvée, first produced in 1978, and is built to reflect the estate through selected vineyard blocks.

The 2019 growing season brought gradual, even ripening, with the harvest for Rubicon spread over 36 days. Cabernet Sauvignon is joined by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, followed by 20 months of maturation in French oak, a large proportion of it new. That context helps explain the wine's described depth, structure and concentration.

In this 3-litre double magnum, Rubicon takes on an extra sense of occasion. It is the kind of bottle that belongs at a generous table, particularly with beef, grilled meats, rack of lamb, game, short rib, braised beef or truffle pasta. At Drankenshop Broekmans, large formats like this are valued not only for the wine inside, but for the shared moment they create when opened.

The 2019 Rubicon received strong recognition from a range of professional critics, including Decanter, James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast, Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Vinous and Wine Spectator. Several sources also point to notable ageing potential. With only the last bottles remaining, this is not a format that is likely to stay in the selection for long.

About INGLENOOK

Inglenook is a historic wine brand from California, United States, that has its roots in the famous Napa Valley. The brand was originally founded in 1879 by the Finnish sea captain Gustave Niebaum, who with his passion for winemaking managed to establish one of the earliest quality estates in Napa. Over the years, Inglenook has had several owners, but the estate's reputation remained long associated with high-quality wines, mainly cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Since 2011, the vineyards and estate have once again been managed under the name Inglenook, after film director Francis Ford Coppola, already the owner, succeeded in reuniting both the historic name and the estate. Characteristic for Inglenook is the focus on traditional vinification techniques and the use of grapes from its own vineyards in Rutherford, an area known for its exceptional terroir. The wines of Inglenook are often distinguished by their aging potential and balanced style, which makes the brand popular among both connoisseurs and wine enthusiasts interested in the rich Napa past.
