Product info about Bibi Graetz Testamatta Bianco 2021
Bibi Graetz Testamatta Bianco 2021 is the white expression within the Testamatta line: a dry Tuscan white wine under Toscana Bianco IGT, made entirely from Ansonica. For this vintage, the fruit comes from the Serrone vineyard on Isola del Giglio, just off the Tuscan coast.Serrone is set on sea-facing terraces in the south-east of the island, around 60 to 150 metres above sea level. Poor rocky granite soils, maritime winds and old Ansonica vines, described in the 2021 technical notes as up to around 100 years old, all feed into the wine's saline, mineral personality. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we value this bottle for that clear island signature: it is Tuscan, but with the sea very close by.
The grapes are harvested by hand and brought to the cellar in small baskets. After destemming, they undergo a very gentle pressing, with less than an hour of skin contact before settling at low temperature. Fermentation takes place in new 225-litre barriques, followed by 12 months on the lees without malolactic conversion. The result is a wine where subtle toasted and smoky notes sit behind the fruit, while freshness and texture remain central.
The 2021 growing season on Giglio was warmer than usual, though sea breezes helped preserve balance between acidity and ripeness. The vintage received strong critical recognition, including 95 points from James Suckling and 92 points from Vinous, Jeb Dunnuck and Falstaff. With only the last bottles remaining, this is a particularly characterful white Tuscan wine for anyone drawn to coastal freshness, structure and mineral depth.
