Flavour notes

Cheval Des Andes 2019 shows a ruby colour with garnet nuances. The aroma brings fresh red fruit to the front, with cherry, redcurrant and plum, followed by blackcurrant and blueberry. Floral notes of violet and lavender sit alongside mint, white pepper, liquorice and wild herbs.

On the palate it is dry, fresh and structured, with fine to velvety tannins and balanced acidity. The oak influence appears through vanilla, cedar and sandalwood, with touches of charcoal, tobacco, bay leaf, rosemary and dried herbs in the background. The finish is long, carrying fruit, spice and wood tones with good persistence.

Product info about Cheval Des Andes 2019

Cheval Des Andes 2019 is a Mendoza red wine shaped by an unmistakable dialogue between Argentina and Bordeaux inspiration. It comes from the partnership between Château Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes, built here on an equal blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Malbec gives the wine its Argentine identity, while Cabernet Sauvignon brings freshness, line and structure.

The fruit comes from Las Compuertas in Luján de Cuyo and Paraje Altamira in the Uco Valley. For the 2019 vintage, the growing season asked for careful vineyard management, followed by dry conditions and a marked difference between day and night temperatures. In the cellar, each plot was handled separately, allowing the final blend to keep a clear sense of its different origins.

Maturation took place in a range of wooden vessels, from 225-litre barrels to larger foudres, with part new oak and a strong emphasis on French oak. The result is not a wine built around oak, but one where the ageing supports the fruit, spice and structure. The vintage also received notable recognition from Wine Advocate, James Suckling, Vinous and Wine Enthusiast.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see Cheval Des Andes 2019 as a wine for customers who appreciate Mendoza with refinement and ageing potential. It can be cellared further, yet also shows well in its younger phase with proper aeration. With only the last bottles remaining, it is a thoughtful choice for those looking for a serious Argentine red with depth.

About CHEVAL DES ANDES

Cheval Des Andes is an Argentine wine brand that originated from a collaboration between the renowned French winemaker Chateau Cheval Blanc from Saint-Émilion and the Argentine wine producer Terrazas de los Andes, part of Moët Hennessy. The initiative began at the end of the 1990s with the aim of combining French winemaking traditions with the unique terroir of Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes. The vineyards are situated at a relatively high altitude, allowing the grapes to benefit from cooler nights, optimal sunlight, and clean mountain air. This often results in wines with deep concentration and a balanced freshness. Cheval Des Andes primarily focuses on complex red wines, for which mainly Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon are used, varietals that are known for their robust, aromatic character in this region. The philosophy behind the brand revolves around crafting elegant blends that offer both power and finesse, highlighting the best of both Argentine and French winemaking expertise. Due to its limited production and close collaboration with French oenologists, Cheval Des Andes is considered one of the most striking examples of international wine projects in South America.
