Product info about Clos Du Lican 2019
Clos du Lican 2019 is the first commercial vintage of a dedicated single-vineyard Syrah project from Apalta. It sits within the Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle family portfolio, related to Clos Apalta, yet it comes from its own Clos du Lican vineyard in the San José area of the Apalta Valley, around five kilometres from Clos Apalta itself.The wine is made entirely from Syrah, grown on selected parcels between 185 and 430 metres above sea level. The site is shaped by old granitic and granodioritic soils, good drainage and the particular mesoclimate of Apalta: warm, dry growing conditions, marked day-night temperature differences and a cooling influence from the Tinguiririca River. Those elements help explain the deep colour, firm structure and preserved freshness described for the wine.
In the cellar, the approach was deliberately restrained. Fermentation took place with wild yeasts, extraction was gentle, pigeage was done by hand and maceration lasted 5 to 6 weeks. The wine fermented in French oak barrels and then matured for 23 months in new French oak. It was bottled without fining or filtration, keeping close to the character of the vineyard and vintage.
