Flavour notes

Château Margaux 2017 shows a dark, layered aromatic profile with cassis, blackcurrant, dark cherry and black raspberry, followed by violet, liquorice, tobacco, earth and forest floor. Notes of pencil shavings, cedar, espresso, toast and spice add further depth.

On the palate it is dry, concentrated and firmly structured, yet the available tasting notes also stress freshness and elegance. The tannins are ripe, the finish is long, and a mineral or subtly saline impression lingers at the end.

Product info about Chateau Margaux 2017 Demi (37,5cl)

Château Margaux 2017 Demi is the Grand Vin of Château Margaux in half-bottle format, from the Margaux appellation in the Médoc. This is the estate's first wine, a Premier Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, and should not be confused with Pavillon Rouge or Margaux du Château Margaux.

The blend is led decisively by cabernet sauvignon, with merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot in supporting roles. Cabernet sauvignon gives the wine its firm framework, while the merlot lots selected for 2017 bring softer fruit, roundness and volume. Only 37% of the harvest went into the Grand Vin, a clear indication of the level of selection behind this release.

The 2017 vintage has its own particular story. After April frost, favourable flowering and a warm, very dry summer, rain in early September raised the question of harvest timing. Château Margaux chose to wait for riper, more concentrated grapes, and that decision helps explain the character described for the wine: structured and ageworthy, yet marked by freshness, finesse and fully ripe tannins.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this half bottle is especially interesting as a more intimate way to approach a great Bordeaux. The wine has received major critical recognition, including 98 points from Wine Advocate and 99 points from James Suckling, but its real appeal lies in the glass: a concentrated, finely built Margaux where power is held in check by elegance.

About CH MARGAUX

Château Margaux is known worldwide as one of the most renowned wineries from the Bordeaux region in France and is particularly linked to the village of Margaux in the Margaux appellation, part of the Médoc. This winery has a rich history that dates back to the 16th century, making it one of the oldest wine-producing châteaux in France. Margaux owes its prestige in part to the 1855 classification, in which it was ranked as Premier Grand Cru Classé, the highest status within the system established during the World Exhibition in Paris. The vineyards of Château Margaux cover more than 80 hectares, planted with grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The typical wine style of the estate is often described as elegant, balanced, and refined, with an aromatic profile emphasizing fruitiness and floral notes, and where traditional importance is placed on long aging. In addition to the famous red wine, the estate also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux. With a history full of tradition and a lasting reputation for quality, Château Margaux stands as a leading symbol of Bordeaux wine.
