Château Troplong Mondot 2019 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion, classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé. As the estate's grand vin, it reflects a vintage with real ripeness and concentration, yet the emphasis here is also on freshness, line and precision.

The blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and a small share of Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from Troplong Mondot's estate vineyards on a high hill in Saint-Émilion, where clay over limestone and varied exposures around the slope play an important role. That setting helps explain the wine's combination of dark fruit depth, structure and limestone-driven tension.

Since 2017, the estate has moved towards a more refined style under Aymeric de Gironde and technical director Rémy Monribot. In 2019 this included early harvesting, cold maceration, low-temperature vinification and ageing in a combination of new and used oak. It was also the first vintage in which malolactic conversion was not carried out in barrel, a detail that fits the château's search for a cleaner, more precise expression.

Château Troplong Mondot 2019 opens with a deep core of ripe dark fruit: blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, blackberry and black raspberry, with occasional fig-like depth. Around that fruit come floral notes of violet, rose and lavender, followed by graphite, sage, black pepper, cedar, tobacco, earth and truffle.

On the palate it is concentrated, medium to full in body, with fine-grained tannins and a taut limestone freshness. The oak is present but integrated, showing more as cedar, cocoa, dark chocolate, espresso and spice than overt vanilla sweetness.

The finish carries dark fruit, floral lift, spice, graphite and a chalky mineral impression. Decanting for around two hours and serving at about 18 °C suits the structure of the wine well.
