Dalla Valle Maya 2018 is a Napa Valley red where the vineyard story sits right at the centre of the wine. Maya is the special cuvée of Dalla Valle Vineyards in Oakville, built from Cabernet Sauvignon from the Maya Block and Cabernet Franc from neighbouring parcels. In the 2018 vintage, the blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc, all sourced from the estate vineyard.The setting in Oakville's eastern hills gives the wine much of its identity. Iron-rich rocky soils, volcanic ground, clay and old stone support a style that combines dark fruit concentration with a firm mineral, almost ferrous thread. Dalla Valle describes 2018 as a season of slow, even development, allowing colour, aroma and tannin to build gradually.
The wine spent 22 months in 100% new French oak and was bottled without filtration. That fits the estate's low-intervention approach, aimed at carrying the character of the vineyard as directly as possible into the bottle. At Drankenshop Broekmans, Maya 2018 stands out as a serious Oakville Cabernet-based wine with clear ageing potential, especially now that only the last bottles remain.
Its recognition from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, Vinous, James Suckling, Wine Spectator and Falstaff reflects the same qualities that define the wine: depth, freshness, ripe tannins, length and a strong sense of place. If opened on the younger side, it deserves time in the glass or decanter; one tasting source mentions around three hours of decanting.

Dalla Valle Vineyards is located in the Oakville region of Napa Valley, California, and is best known for its wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends. The winery was founded in 1986 by Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle and has since grown into a significant name within the premium Napa world.
