Clos Du Marquis 2011 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Julien in the Médoc, with a distinctly classical feel. It comes from Domaines Delon, in the orbit of Château Léoville Las Cases, yet its identity should not be mistaken for that of a simple second wine. Clos du Marquis has its own Saint-Julien terroir and has existed under this name since 1902.The 2011 vintage was shaped by an exceptionally warm, dry spring, followed by summer rain that helped offset the early water stress. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. That helps explain the wine's emphasis on structure, freshness and a leaner Saint-Julien expression rather than a broad, very ripe style.

Clos du Marquis is a wine brand from the French Bordeaux region and is recognized as one of the better-known wines from Saint-Julien. Clos du Marquis was introduced in 1902 and is closely linked to the renowned Château Léoville Las Cases, one of the so-called Deuxièmes Crus from the 1855 classification. The vineyards of Clos du Marquis are located just outside the actual Léoville Las Cases plot, but share many of the typical characteristics of Saint-Julien such as elegance, structure, and complexity. Clos du Marquis is often seen as the second wine of Léoville Las Cases, although it has now built up an entirely own reputation. The blend traditionally consists mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented with Merlot and sometimes a small amount of Cabernet Franc, depending on the harvest year. The aging takes place in French oak barrels, which contributes to the characteristic character of the wine. Thanks to its reliable quality level and recognizable, classic style, Clos du Marquis has secured a permanent place within the selection of Bordeaux enthusiasts.
